Veit Arlt graduated in 1995 with a Lizentiatsarbeit (MA-thesis) on the history of Krobo (southeastern Ghana) concluding his studies in history and geography at the University of Basel. This thesis found its continuation in a PhD-research and led to a doctoral thesis with the title Christianity, Imperialism and Culture. The Expansion of the two Krobo States, c.1830-1930 (Basel 2005). He worked with various institutions dealing with Africa and located in Basel: 1995-1996 with the Basler Afrika Bibliographien; 1997-1998 at the Basel Mission Archives (assistant of Paul Jenkins, the then lecturer in African History at the University of Basel); 2004 assistant at the chair for African History at the University of Basel (Prof. Patrick Harries); 2005 lecturer at the Department of History of the University of Basel and, together with Monica Kalt, coordination of the Centre for African Studies of the University of Basel; 2006 assistant at the chair for African History at the University of Basel. In February and March 2005 he was a visiting lecturer at the Department of Social Anthropology of the University of the Witwatersrand (exchange project with Prof. David Coplan funded by the KFPE Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries). From 20 November 2005 to 29 January 2006 he was a research associate of the Centre for African Studies of the University of Cape Town. For further information see: |
